
Dr. Roya Karbakhsh is an Adult, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist serving the Hudson Valley community since 2000. Her sympathetic, kindhearted, and caring approaches to her patients make her
capable of reaching to the core of her patients' issues and empowers
them to enhance their awareness of their potentials in dealing with
treatment and recovery.
Work History:
Dr. Karbakhsh has been
working in both inpatient and outpatient settings as well as day
programs in Dutchess, Ulster, and Orange county. She has worked in
Benedictines, St Francis, Middle town psychiatric center. She is
currently an employee of UCMH. She is a graduate of Isfahan Medical
University. She graduated from New York Medical College psychiatry
residency program at Saint Vincent's Hospital, NY.
Dr. Karbakhsh's great love of children and the importance of
addressing the childhood's psychosocial stressors on the developmental
stages led her to attended New York University’s Child & Adolescent
Psychiatry fellowship. During her fellowship at New York University hospital and NYU
Child study center she worked as an instructor for residents and medical students. She completed a research psychopharmacology
fellowship focusing on child adolescent psycho pharmacology research
at Mount Sinai with Dr. Jeffery Newcorn. Her main concentration
included childhood ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, and PTSD.
Working Modalities:
Dr. Karbakhsh's scientific approach and psycho pharmacological intervention as well as
her extensive academic experience and expertise in employing various
modalities include family and couple therapy, psycho-dynamic
psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy CBT, mindfulness based
stress reduction skills, and dialectic behavioral therapy DBT. She also uses coherence
breathing, meditation, and relaxation techniques to further her patients' receptivity to regain inner strength in dealing with their
treatment and recovery.
Treatment plans may include medication management, nutritional supplementation, bio identical hormonal therapy, psychotherapy, career coaching and/or consulting.
In her work with children Dr. Karbakhsh employs CBT,
indirect play therapy, sandbox play therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, and family therapy to enhance
their recovery from Anxiety, Depression, OCD, PTSD
